FLAG ENGLISH: Prerequisite for a request for a "Familienschein" is according to the Civil Registry Ordinance (para 60) a permission by the cantonal Civil Registry Authority. Their addresses are listed in the above table. As the interpretation of the Civil Registry Ordinance differs somewhat between cantons, there will also be differences in the documents required to get such a permission. It is therefore recommended as a first step to enquire what exactly is expected for such an application. It is also recommended to enquire about the fees (for both the permission, and a Familienschein), to avoid an unpleasant surprise.

Addresses and phone numbers, as well as the persons responsible, will change occasionally: should you encounter outdated information on this table, please, inform the Webmaster, including the updated information.

Further information on the principles of Civil Registration in Switzerland is available from the Federal Civil Registry Authority.

The "Familienschein" itself has to be requested from the Civil Registry Office of the Community of Citizenship. The fees are fixed in an ordinance.
